WP Engine, a leading SaaS content management platform for websites and applications built on WordPress, today announced the launch of the new WP Engine Labs and its first innovation, S3 Mirror. The new WP Engine Labs will contribute to the Open Source community and serve as the innovation wing of WP Engine’s product suite. Headed by Senior Director, Tomás Puig, WP Engine Labs will employ full-time Open Source contributors and developers to deliver Alpha prototypes of innovations that add new functionality, ease-of-use, and business value for WP Engine customers.
S3 Mirror, the company’s first closed source innovation from WP Engine Labs, will enable mirroring of WP Engine hosted websites to AWS’ storage service, S3. It is the most scalable platform ever developed for static content and requires no code-level changes to a website’s infrastructure. It has minimal impact on system load, can mirror individual pages, and recursively scan an entire site. When a Content Delivery Network (CDN) is built in front of S3 Mirror, there is no faster or more scalable disaster recovery solution available for websites today.
“Our new Labs will ensure that WP Engine is constantly innovating and expanding our core competencies, as well as continuing to increase our presence in the Open Source community,” said Tomás Puig, Senior Director, Labs, WP Engine. “S3 Mirror is the fastest and most scalable mirroring service the hosting industry has seen and it is a sign of what more is to come from WP Engine Labs. We’re excited about developing new technologies to take our company to the next level.”
In addition to developing new products, WP Engine Labs will contribute greatly to a variety of Open Source projects including Nginx and HHVM.
