austin-traffic-screenRound Rock-based Kerlmax has released the latest version of their Austin Traffic iPhone application. Google Maps has a map-based indicator of traffic, but this app has traffic cameras on the major highways in Austin, plus a list of exactly where incidents are happening. You just don’t get that kind of pinpoint accuracy any other way. The data comes from the city and the Texas Department of Transportion, so if there are data glitches you’ll have to blame them. It would be cool to see some sort of crowdsourced traffic reporting for the iPhone. Perhaps they’re saving that for version 3.0!

It’s great to see more people in the Austin area developing iPhone apps. Especially this one since it has such a hyperlocal focus.

The app sells for $4.99 in the iTunes app store.

  1. While I think this app is a really cool idea I’d think that the $4.99 will drive a lot of would-be users away. $5 isn’t a lot but within the itunes app store microcosm $5 is a bit pricey with the average cost of an iPhone app at $2.63 and $0.99 as the most popular price. Though this is a great program and I definitely want to keep my eye on it and see how it develops.

  2. Seems like an awesome application to have but a bit pricey. Sadly, it’s a no go for me until they develop an android version.
