My prediction going into the weekend was that SpareFoot would repeat this year in the Austin Startup Games. If you’re not familiar with the games, they pit teams from Austin startups against each other in such prestigious events as flip cup, foosball, and beer pong. The real winners at this event are the charities, as each team is playing for their favorite charitable organization. As the top company in this year’s Austin Startup Games, SpareFoot picked up a $23,000 check for Kure It. To date, SpareFoot has contributed $43,500 in Startup Games prizes to Kure It.
“By bringing home the gold for the second year in a row, SpareFoot more than doubled its previous contributions to Kure It,” said Karen Jones, director of Irvine, CA-based Kure It. “I was so pleased to be able to attend the games this year, and experience the energy and excitement of the day. By far, my favorite part was meeting the SpareFoot employees and getting the chance to thank them for their commitment to Kure It.”
Sixteen local startups participated in the Startup Games. SpareFoot clinched five gold medals and two silver medals in the 10-event competition.
“SpareFoot’s incredible team spirit was on display Saturday, when we absolutely dominated the Austin Startup Games,” SpareFoot co-founder and CEO Chuck Gordon commented in his traditional humble style. “While last year was a close 26-23 victory, this year we pulled ahead and won 31-15. SpareFoot bleeds gold!”
