I remember when George called me on a Saturday morning in 1989 as I was enroute to give a speech in NE Austin. He ask me to come by his office as he had an urgent request. While pressed for time and against my assistants advice, I went by IC2 and he can down to the car. He ask for me to secure a $100K committment from the City and Chamber of Commerce for a 3 year period. He said he would get a similiar committment from the University. I agreed that I would get the funding from the city and chamber using my office and his vision. Thus the funding for the ATI was born and ATI was born.
