Not long after opening a sweet office downtown, Google is shutting it down. The information was contained in a news release about laying off 100 recruiters. Offices in Norway, Sweeden, and Austin are apparently being closed down. When even cash-laden Google is cutting costs, you know the economy is rough.

They’re also cutting apps including Jaiku, Google Catalog Search, Google Notebook, and Google Video.

  1. It’s too bad when you see big employers (and high profile employers) like this withdraw, because they often help areas like Austin convince other companies that it’s a good place to be.
