Website Eventful came out with their 2008 list of the most Eventful cities (defined by the number of events per capita). Austin was previously ranked #17 but dropped to #19 this year. Houston (#13) and Dallas (#7) were both ahead of us for the second year in a row. The top three cities in order were New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. You can find the complete list here.
Does Austin really have less events per capita than 18 other cities in the U.S. or do we just not bother to list them on Eventful? I mean, do Austinites really need to create an Eventful listing for The Resentments on Sunday nights at Saxon Pub?
Did you catch this in their release? Apparently Austin doesn’t have much in the way of a music scene either.

Eventful misses tons of events – particularly music. The good people at Do512.com (shameless plug) have 78 music events tonight in Austin, while eventful shows 62 -of which only 30 or so are actual events, over half are just multiple bands playing the same bill, or weird stuff like “community night” which has has been listed every night since feb 13.
As for that Resentment Show… It’s another Eventful missed. They do have this one – http://eventful.com/austin/events/the-resentments-/E0-001-017638192-4 – for their show Friday, but it’s got some punk band attached to it.

You just can’t do local well with nothing but automation. You gotta have the automation or it’s too expensive, but local knowledge and oversight to guide/correct/clean the info is critical.
