Ian was a co-founder of innovative video sharing site Revver, and also did some groundbreaking work with Thoof which is a news site that changes itself based upon user behavior. Thoof appears to be down now, but it sounds like Ian is taking some of Thoof’s basic technology to create a collaborative filtering product. It will be interesting to see what finally comes out of the labs, but Ian always seems to develop his websites at an incredibly rapid pace, so we hope to see something soon!

  1. Hey, thanks for the plug. Actually, its no big secret, the software is called SenseArray, and you can read all about it at http://sensearray.com/.

One point of clarification though, while SenseArray and Thoof both use collaborative filtering, SenseArray does not employ any of Thoof’s technology, it is an entirely separate project. I’ve actually used collaborative filtering since long before Thoof, first with a project called “Indy”, which was folded into Revver, and then again at Revver where we licensed our collaborative filter to Reddit (although they stopped using it when they were acquired by Condé Nast).
