- Connie Loizos over at PEHub blogged about a conversation with former Austinite Mike Maples. In it he talks about the window for investing in social media companies, and what types of deals his new $33M fund is looking at now.
- Lori Hawkins at The Statesman had a writeup on Austin startup company 7 Billion People Inc. which is trying to solve the problem of high abandonment rates at e-commerce sites.
- Rackspace announced details of their planned IPO. At the highest share price, the deal would generate $240M.

The Austin chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals, in conjunction with Innotech Austin, is looking for nominations for four technology awards. Winning nominations will be recognized at the Oct. 16 Innotech Conference.
Scott Foster , the Austin AITP president, said his organization are seeking nominations for the following awards:
2008 IT Executive of the Year – Private Sector;
2008 IT Executive of the Year – Public Sector
2008 Information Technologist of the Year. According to Fraser, this award is focused on recognizing the top Austin area chief technology officer.
2008 IT Solution of the Year. The Austin AITP president said this is a new award for his association and the Innotech conference.

The Austin Chapter of the National Association of Information Technology Professionals(AITP)has been leading and educating Austin’s senior technology talent since 1954.
