Nuventix Raises Funding

Nuventix is the latest Austin company to announce that it has raised additional venture funding, having closed on a $8.5 million round. The company, formerly known as Innovative Fluidics, focuses on producing cooling devices that efficiently and effectively dissipate heat from any surface. Recently the company launched its SynJet technology, which allows twice the light output compared to passive LED thermal management designs, quite a feat in the LED market which is exploding right now. Nuventix raised its initial venture capital funded round of $6.5M in September of 2005 from Centerpoint Ventures, InterWest Partners and RHO Ventures.

Pluck Signs Deal With The Guardian

PluckIf you don’t live in the UK, you might not know of The Guardian right off the bat. You might think about The Guardian as a newspaper in the UK, but it’s also a huge media conglomerate. Their Guardian Unlimited website has been voted the best newspaper website for the past three years at the Webby Awards and record over 18 million unique visitors in October of 2007. And they’ve chosen Pluck to power the social media side of their website.

Arthocare Completes Acquisition

ArthoCare Corp., an Austin-based publicly traded company, announced today that it had completed the acquisition of DiscoCare Inc., a third-party billing and reimbursement services provider, on Dec. 31 for $25 million in cash plus potential future milestone payments. ArthoCare is a recently transplanted company to Austin that focuses on providing medical devices. Like our other local publicly traded companies (Dell, Freescale, etc.), it is always good to see M&A activity from an entrepreneurial perspective, and given the recent surge in bio, pharma, and healthcare technology in Austin, this is especially exciting!

A New Year at AustinStartup!

It’s a new year and a new look for AustinStartup. We’re using some new software for the blog which will give us some exciting new capabilities in 2008. You might be seeing them already up in the menu bar. Some new sections for you:

  • Calendar — We’re hoping to start automatically syndicating calendars from your favorite tech-oriented organizations into a single calendar.
  • Jobs — Many of our readers are looking for employment opportunities in technology, so we’re using even more of the great features from Indeed.com to provide a great technology job board for you. We are constantly combing the web for tech jobs in Austin, and we’ll also allow you to post jobs here for cheap (like $49) that will run all across the Indeed network.
