Buffalo Technology Ships External Blu-Ray/HDDVD Player

Buffalo Technology, which has it’s US headquarters in Austin, announced an external Blu-Ray and HD DVD player at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). It’s the first consumer device of its kind to read and write both content formats. The device can connect to a computer through a USB cable. Retail price is expected to be around $649. Rumors are swirling that Paramount Studios is getting ready to drop support for HD DVD, which would leave Blu-Ray as the clear winner in the format wars. That would certainly be a win for consumers, as devices like this would not need to be dual-format and prices would drop.
