Ascension Orthopedics started in Austin back in 1996 by two doctors who were pioneering the field of carbon implants. In 2001 the company received FDA approval on their first product, a total joint replacement for the knuckle. The current product line includes implants for the shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers, and toes. Today the company announced $21M in a Series D financing which will help expand the product line, enhance product marketing, and support the distrbution network. They also announced Andrew Miclot will join the company as CEO, replacing co-founder Jerome Klawitter. Mr. Miclot was previously an executive with Orthofix, and has also held senior positions at Symmetry Medical, DePuy, and Zimmer.
