Alereon Inc., an Austin, Texas-based fabless semiconductor company developing ultrawideband wireless chipsets, has called down around $18.5 million in additional Series B funding, according to PE Hub. The company had previously raised $21.53 million in Series B funding at a post-money valuation of approximately $80 million. NexTech Solutions, a publicly traded manufacturer of automated optical inspection systems used in the production of flat panel display, which merged with FAS Technologies, LLC earlier this year, has received a $1 million investment from Tokyo, Japan-based Hakuto Co. Ltd. Hakuto, which distributes electric products and manufactures industrial chemicals, likely sees this as a strong strategic investment, as Hakuto represents NexTech’s products throughout the Asia Pacific region. UpLink Corp., the Austin-based company focused on delivering GPS management solutions to golf carts, has announced that it is being acquired by British Columbia, Canada-based GPS Industries Inc. for US$18 million in cash, stock and debt. Both companies produce systems used in golf carts that provide players with detailed information using the global positioning system.
